Area Info

Washington State brings together the best of both worlds. 60 percent of our state’s population lives in the Greater Seattle Area, leaving the remainder of our mountain ranges, rain forests, and shoreline nearly untouched. The result is a perfect combination of a cultural and economic center with pristine natural beauty.

For entertainment, it’s tough to beat Seattle, home of the Seattle Repertory Theatre, Seattle Opera, Pacific Northwest Ballet and, every year, the site of the legendary Northwest Folklife Festival and Bumbershoot: Seattle’s Music and Arts Festival. Seattle also hosts dozens of arts-related festivals, including the world-renowned Seattle International Film Festival. Outside of Seattle, the rest of the state offers a host of other options, including the acclaimed Winthrop Rhythm and Blues Festival, the Spokane Symphony, and Spokane’s historic Fox Theater.

Local Weather

Washington’s climate varies greatly from west to east. A mild, humid climate predominates in the western part of the state, and a cooler dry climate prevails east of the Cascade Range. In the Seattle area, the Summer average high temperature is 75 degrees, and the average winter low temperature is 36 degrees. Weather in the west is fairly wet, while eastern areas can receive quite a bit of snow.
