Connecticut is a crossroads. It sits conveniently between Boston and New York, but maintains its own unique New England charm. It couples a deep colonial heritage with a diverse population and a modern, growing economy. From the Berkshires to the Sound, whatever your interests and needs, Connecticut has something wonderful to offer.

Culture

Trinity College

Connecticut is a blend of many ethnicities and cultures. In addition to “Yankees” whose families settled in colonial times, we are home to large Caribbean, Eastern European, and Mediterranean populations. In any season, visitors and residents can sample Puerto Rican, Italian, Polish, Irish, Jamaican, and traditional “Yankee” music, cuisine, and culture, with no more than an hour’s drive. As home to Yale University, the Hartford Stage Company, the Hartt School of Music, the Wadsworth Atheneum, and dozens of other institutions, Connecticut also offers unparalleled arts access for a state of its size, and if you still can’t get enough, New York City is just hours away.

While the bulk of our economy is comprised of aerospace, defense, and financial services, Connecticut has worked hard to maintain its natural beauty. From the newly-restored Connecticut River to the old-world seaport charm of Mystic and Old Lyme, Connecticut’s waterways are built for sailing, kayaking, and fishing. Western Connecticut’s forests are ideal for hiking, camping, and hunting. In winter months, we offer skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, and ice fishing, close to home, and when you’re ready to warm up indoors or take in a show, we’re home to the largest casino and entertainment center in the country.
