Each region of the state has its own character. Northern Virginia is highly industrialized, with strong ties to the Washington, DC area. The Shenandoah Valley is a destination its resorts, foliage, and festivals. Central and Southern Virginia are more rural, providing a more relaxed pace and a greater sense of history. The Blue Ridge Highlands and Western Virginia maintain the state’s historical charm, music, and cadence. The Chesapeake Bay combines proximity to the DC Metro with a nautical mindset and some of the countries best sailing and seafood.
Weather
While weather varies depending on elevation and proximity to the ocean, Virginia’s climate is typically mild. Summers are warm, but less so than the rest of the Southern United States, with a July average high of 86 degrees. Winters are cool, with an average nighttime low in January of 26 degrees, but daytime highs remain well into the 40s, and snows are very rare and melt quickly.
