Area Info

Texas is the biggest state in the continental United States, and so are the opportunities we provide. We offer a diverse mix of cultures, world-class entertainment, a growing economy, and a perfect place to raise a family.

Culture

Texas’ blend of Native American, Spanish, and American frontier traditions and peoples has created a culture unique to the Lone Star State. Texas is larger than many countries, and the number of cultural and entertainment offerings are equally big. From Austin’s hip, young South By Southwest (SXSW) Festival to more traditional Tejano, country and western, and gospel, Texas is a musical state, innovating while we honor our roots. Our growing state is also home to a burgeoning film industry and some of the most innovative visual arts festivals in the country.

A state as large as ours leaves plenty of room for economic growth without sacrificing room to breathe. Texas has over 600 miles of beach and tens of millions of acres of open space for hiking, biking, mountain climbing, rafting, and other outdoor activities. And when you’ve worked up an appetite, we offer the nation’s best food.

Last–but never least–are sports. From peewees to the pros, we take our sports seriously, and there’s no better place to watch football, basketball, baseball or hockey. We offer three NBA teams, two NFL franchises, two Major League Baseball teams, and the NHL’s Dallas Stars. We also have one of the nation’s most respected high school and collegiate athletic systems, and the best fans in the world.

Weather

Local Weather

Texans always say, “if you don’t like the weather now, just wait five minutes and it’ll change.” To be honest, Texas weather is pretty mild most all year round — more than 200 days of sunshine a year and an average temperature of 73. But due to its large size, Texan weather is hard to define. We’re home to several different climates, from dry deserts to humid coastline to snowy mountains. Near the Louisiana border, annual rainfall exceeds 56 inches, while parts of extreme West Texas average less than 8 inches. Record temperatures range from –23°F at Seminole, to 120°F at Seymour.

Real Estate

While other states are losing jobs and people, Texas is growing, creating a vibrant, shifting real estate market with lots of opportunity for smart buyers and sellers. Texas real estate is as varied as its geography, climate, and people. Whether you’re looking for a starter home, a secluded ranch getaway, a downtown condominium, or the mansion of your dreams, Texas has something great to offer.
