Happy Friday!

Have a safe and fun Memorial Day Weekend – Watch the little ones around pools!

So much to be thankful for – so many to remember.

Here are some tips to make sure your tribute is a respectful one:

http://www.marthastewart.com/266496/flag-etiquette?backto=true

Display the flag only between sunrise and sunset on buildings and stationary flagstaffs. The flag may be displayed for twenty-four hours if illuminated in darkness.

- Do not display the flag in inclement weather.

- Whether displaying the flag vertically or horizontally, make sure the canton of stars is visible on the upper left-hand side.

- Do not let the flag touch the ground.

- The flag should be hoisted briskly and lowered ceremoniously.

- Before flying a flag at half-staff, hoist to its peak for an instant before lowering it.

- When displayed against a wall with another flag, their staffs crossed, the American flag should be on the right of the other flag (on the viewer’s left), with its staff on top of that of the other flag.

- When flags of states, cities, or localities are flown on the same halyard with the United States flag, the national flag should always be at the top. No other flag should be placed above, or if on the same level, to the flag’s right.

- When flags of two or more nations are displayed, they should be flown from separate staffs of equal height. The flags should be of approximately equal size.

- When the flag is displayed from a staff projecting horizontally or at an angle, the canton should be placed at the peak of the staff.

- An unusable flag that is damaged and worn and can no longer be displayed should be destroyed in a dignified way by burning.

- When not on display, the flag should be respectfully folded into a triangle, symbolizing the tricorn hats worn by colonial soldiers in the Revolutionary War.

Tell me what’s going on?

Tell me what’s going on?

The new blues for 2011!

I recently attended a kitchen seminar put on by Phoenix Home and Garden at Pinnacle Kitchen and Bath Studio.  Mary-Lynn Hall, ASID had just attended an convention for the latest international trends in kitchen and bath design.  She outlined the new looks in cabinetry and tile. Blue is a strong trend color for decorating this year. As shown in the photos below it is a calming color and can make your home a refuge the world outside. If you are thinking of an update in your kitchen, please contact Mary-Lynn or visit the Pinnacle Kitchen and Bath studio to learn more about the latest trends.

Here are 4 beautiful kitchens using blue:

Love the barrel-vault ceiling in this Napa California Kitchen.

A close up of the blue tiles.

Gorgeous blue granite countertops in this Paradise Valley kitchen!

This north Scottsdale kitchen packs a punch with bright blue tiles!

And finally a contemporary kitchen with a bold blue glass back splash (location unknown).  I am seeing contemporary kitchens and painted cabinetry in lighter shades in many of the newly renovated kitchens in the Scottsdale area and Mary-Lynn said this is a new design direction across the country.

First Quarter information from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University

Phoenix Real Estate: On the Pothole-Filled Road to Recovery

by Elliott Pollack Expectations have not improved for Phoenix single-family housing. The Greater Phoenix Blue Chipconsensus forecast projects that home permit activity for single-family housing will increase in 2011 and 2012, but by less than previously expected. For multifamily housing and the commercial sectors, the panel anticipates little change from the modest growth forecast in last quarter’s consensus. Overall, the Greater Phoenix Blue Chip forecast is in line with low expectations for employment and population growth in 2011 and into 2012. We are clearly on the road to recovery, but it appears that the road will be a long and bumpy one. Read more in update below:   http://wpcarey.asu.edu/bluechip/phoenix/index.cfm

When to Buy?  That is always asked about our current housing market.  In simple – when you are ready to.  There are pitfalls in lending, in pricing, and in market ups and downs, but if you are able and qualified to purchase, your Realtor can help you get the answers you need to purchase your new home.  Be aware of distressed properties hidden costs and make sure you have a thorough inspection done (this is true for all types of purchases) to understand what improvements will be needed as distressed properties can need huge repairs. Living and loving it here in Scottsdale, Arizona I have seen prices fall dramatically!  Many good deals exist at all levels of the market. If you are buying up it is an especially good time to buy!  Below please read updated information on mortgage rates, local Phoenix metro pending prices, and rent vs. buy.

Mortage Rate News-

“The Fed continues to label inflation in the economy as transitory and unemployment elevated. The Fed’s released statement on the economy stated in part, “information received since the Federal Open Market Committee met in March indicates that the economic recovery is proceeding at a moderate pace and overall conditions in the labor market are improving gradually.” The next meeting of the FOMC is set for June 21-22.”    For more please read article from Money-Rates.Com below
