While desert highs near Phoenix have reached over 120 degrees, temperatures in the higher elevations of Northern Arizona can drop below zero in winter. The overall abundance of sunny days in central and Southern Arizona makes it a perfect spot for vacationing, golfing and retirement communities.

Precipitation throughout Arizona is governed largely by elevation andthe season of the year. From November through March, winterstorms bring heavy snows to the higher mountains of the central and northern parts of the state. Snow accumulation may reach depths of 100 inches or more during the winter. The gradual melting of this snow during the spring serves to maintain a supply of water in the main rivers of the state, and allows a surprisingly vibrant agricultural industry.
