Staff Reports

As the Realtor for people relocating to Knoxville, Marian Epps does more than help them find a house.

"I am super proud of this town and I love to share it with people," she says. "I really enjoy finding buyers from other places and helping them fall in love with Knoxville."

Epps, a Knoxville native and Realtor with Coldwell Banker Wallace and Wallace for the past decade, finds out about her client's interests and boasts about the unique things East Tennessee offers. "I tell them about all our festivals, how much TV production we have here and about Oak Ridge," she says.

She also lets them know about the growth this area is experiencing.

"When I was in college, there seriously were tumbleweeds going down Gay Street," she says. "But Knoxville is growing and downtown is growing and all the things happening now helps sell the city."

She credits her work with organizations like Young Professionals of Knoxville, Junior League of Knoxville, Leadership Knoxville and Introduction Knoxville with helping her gain a deeper appreciation for her hometown.

"Knoxville is a community full of people who work together and they get things done," she says. "There's such a movement of people trying to do good."

Leadership Knoxville and its Introduction Knoxville program, in particular, she says, have opened her eyes to the importance of bringing people together to cultivate relationships and make Knoxville a better community.

"Marian truly believes in the Leadership Knoxville mission ‘We build a stronger Knoxville by developing people and groups, leading to a greater community,'" says Sandi Swilley, director of Introduction Knoxville. "She is a wonderful young ambassador for Knoxville and I am proud of her concern and love for our community and its future."

Epps says she tries to help her clients plug in and become "part of something bigger."

"Real estate affords me the opportunity to meet many different people with different careers and interests," she says. "If a client is looking to meet people in the community or get involved, then I try to make that connection for them or help them find a contact person.

"Hopefully this helps them get involved and makes it easier to meet people," she says. "I think that the more people that you have involved in the community, the stronger it becomes. It's about taking ownership and caring about the community."
