It's that time of the year! Setting goals and following through till the finish line right? Well, we all know it's not that easy sometimes. I wanted to share with you some of the tips that we learned from the goal setting workshop that we completed this month. It consist of three very accomplishable steps that may help you stay on track!
FIRST: Plan and write down goals. Use the SMART method when planning.
Be...
S - Specific
M - Measurable
A - Achievable
R - Realistic
T - Timely
Example: Part 1 of Goal - I would like to lose 10 lbs and weigh 185 lbs. I will do this by running 1 mile a day (5 days a week). I also plan to eat a salad with every meal and to not eat past 7pm.
SECOND: Objectives must have Timelines and be broken down into tasks with a "By when" date and assign it to an accountability partner.
Example: Part 2 of Goal - I will accomplish the first phase of the goal to be completed by 1st 2016. I will break it down into 4 parts. The 1st Phase; Scheduling a time to research foods I should be eating, possible gyms or parks I can run around and schedule my first run. I will also have my wife (Accountability partner) weigh me in every Saturday morning at 8am.
THIRD: Set Milestones! What rewards will you give yourself when you complete each phase? Better yet, what's the MISSION ACCOMPLISHED reward!
Examples: When I complete the first VERY accomplish phase I will treat myself to a new pair of workout clothes. For the next phase, make the reward a little juicier! And NO, I'm not talking about a FEAST either! How about a new pair of running shoes? The completion of the Third Phase can be a FULL Body massage. The FINAL Phase reward yourself with something fun, active and adventurous like a hiking trip to Yosemite National Park.
To key is to make it fun and rewarding. Something that you ENJOY WORKING TOWARDS! Happy Goal Setting!
"The ultimate reason for setting goals is to entice you to become the person it takes to achieve them" -Jim Rohn
