Photo Galley of Tucson Area

Sunset

Jon Scanlon is a professional photographer that has shot everything from auto racing to houses to the amazing Tucson sunsets. He really enjoyed documenting the Tucson area for a Citywide charity event that was organized by Cele Petterson. Tucson's Birthday Event ran for several years. Check back often. We have had so many requests for Jon's photos to be somewhere that friends can see that we will be constantly increasing the gallery.

Mission San Xavier del Bac

Mission San Xavier del Bac is located just south of Tucson off I-19. Known as the WHITE DOVE OF THE DESERT.

A National Historic Landmark, San Xavier Mission was founded as a Catholic mission by Father Eusebio Kino in 1692. Construction of the current church began in 1783 and was completed in 1797.

The oldest intact European structure in Arizona, the church's interior is filled with marvelous original statuary and mural paintings. It is a place where visitors can truly step back in time and enter an authentic 18th Century space.

The church retains its original purpose of ministering to the religious needs of its parishioners.

Location:

The Mission is 9 miles south of downtown Tucson, Arizona just off of Interstate 19. Take exit 92 (San Xavier Road) and follow signs to the Mission.

There is no admission charge to visit Mission San Xavier. Some 200,000 visitors come each year from all over the world to view what is widely considered to be the finest example of Spanish Colonial architecture in the United States.

Mission San Xavier del Bac

We still marvel at the exquisite interior. Much of the tile mosaics are actually just painted on the wall.

University of Arizona

The number one University in the State of Arizona was established in 1885. This is a view of Old Main, one of the original buildings. One of the largest employers in Tucson and home the Wildcats. We love attending events anywhere from sports to steel drums to exhibits at the Center for Creative Arts where Patti met Ansel Adams.

The climate is ideal to enjoy outdoor events that take place year round. This was during an August during Cele Peterson's "Tucson's Birthday Event".

Old Water Tower

The water tower is located near the El Con mall.

Southern Arizona Transportation Museum

In 1998, the City of Tucson purchased the former Southern Pacific Railroad Depot on Toole Avenue downtown. Restoration of the main depot building and the three adjacent buildings to their 1941 architectural style was completed in 2004.

Snow in Tucson

Snow falling in the Old Pueblo creates much excitement and amazing amounts of pictures. To see the stately saguaros tipped with snow is fun. Just do not want it to become a yearly event.

Gates Pass

In the Tucson Mountains to the west of the city is Gates Pass. It is a twisty, windy mountain road that gives visitors stunning views of the valleys. In this shot you can see in the distance Old Tucson Movie location and a dust storm.
