Defining Why with Ann Drake- Realty Executives Maryville
Welcome to this month's edition of our Defining Why blog, where we peel back the layers of our top agents and learn more about why drives them. This month, we sat down with Ann Drake, Realtor with REA.
I had been a pharmaceutical sales rep for many years and then took a few years off while my twins--Madison and Taylor-- were in Junior High and High School. As they were making their plans for attending college, I was making plans for the next chapter of my life. I investigated a few options and decided that being a realtor was the perfect fit for me.
There were many factors motivating me to become a realtor. I love the thrill of sales and of being an influencer. I'm a people person and I love to feel like what I am doing makes a difference in someone's life. As realtors, we are able to make a huge difference in our clients lives and in the community we live in. I wanted a career where I am my own boss and it's totally up to me whether I succeed or not. I like the pace. I love that every day is different.
My why is simply that I love life. I am so incredibly blessed and consider every day a true gift from God. I love to see what each day will bring--both incredible opportunities and complex challenges. My other "why" is that I want to be the best role model I can for my kids (well, now adults). I started this career at the age of 56, when many of my peers were looking forward to retirement. My kids are watching me set goals and achieve dreams. Madison and Taylor are actually my "why" for everything.
I'm my own worst critic and also my own best cheerleader. I am motivated when someone tells me I can't do something. Tell me I can't and I'll say watch me. I'm also very driven by goals. I especially love "stretch" goals. Pushing myself beyond what I thought possible or pushing myself to be better than yesterday, last month, last year.
Embrace your fellow Realtors. We're all in this together working for the common good of our clients. Have fun and let's lift each other up. Friendship with other Realtors is critical in this business. Also, we are all at different points in our careers and lives- so don't compare yourself to others!
