Fairhope, Alabama is a quaint, walkable community in the downtown area. Known for its beautiful flower beds and signature landmarks like the pier on the Mobile Bay, there is a lot to see—but first, coffee. Fairhope provides the right kind of fuel for each person’s needs. Whether needing to finish up work and emails, catch up with a group of friends, or entertain the kids while getting a caffeine boost, Fairhope has the right coffee shop for you.
For the artisan coffee-lover, Refuge Coffee shop, in the downtown area, is a modern, clean environment to get mental space with a fresh brew. Unlike other coffee shops, Refuge does not have anything pre-brewed. So, if you’re pressed for time, this isn’t going to be your place. However, the coffee is worth the wait! The baristas are young, hip and friendly—pouring the milk in your cappuccino with the nice design or explaining the different blends and flavors of coffee beans for your pour-over. Nothing is overly sweetened, but only light notes of honey or an aromatic hint of lavender in a latte. This place is all about the integrity and artistry of coffee in its pure form.
You’ll find college students here since it is located across from Coastal Alabama Community College’s campus, or the entrepreneur who works from his laptop. Most people stay for an hour or more to enjoy community or take advantage of the quick WIFI. It’s an open layout but still a small space, so it’s not ideal for large groups. Yet you can easily engage with a stranger as with most of Fairhope, it’s all about the calm, coastal vibes.
If you do want to meet a group of friends, The Coffee Loft is an eclectic environment of different seating arrangements that have separate nooks to converse or study. With classic oldies or rock playing in the background, it’s a casual, stimulating setting with local artists’ work featured. As far as the coffee goes, they have something for everyone—a simple cup of Joe to Frappuccino’s or chai tea lattes! The Coffee Loft also has a few breakfast and lunch options or baked goods for on-the-go. Plus, they stay open usually until 9:00 PM which is later than the typical 5:00 or 6:00 PM closing for most of Fairhope. Just like the environment, you’ll find a diverse crowd from high school to retirement. The Coffee Loft is a great communal spot for the locals!
Page & Palette is a great one-stop-shop for coffee, shopping, drinks, and entertainment. Page & Palette is a bookstore and gift shop connected to Latte Da, the coffee and ice cream shop, and The Book Cellar, the bar and entertainment room. The three businesses are all connected in an open, walk-around concept. This is ideally located for tourists or locals who need a little pick-me-up after shopping in downtown. Depending on the day or week, Page & Palette always has some form of entertainment with a visiting author or musician for book signings or singer-songwriter performances! Also, during First Friday’s Art Walk or Fairhope parades, it’s a great stop with some outdoor seating. This is a signature place in Fairhope because of the location and the variety it offers! And as far as the coffee goes, the Hue Hue Cold Brew will keep you energized! Or for those with a sweet tooth, you’ll find a lot of dessert coffee options.
Fairhope takes coffee so seriously that it actually has its own roasting company located in Warehouse Bakery! Great for families, visitors, retirees and everyone in between, Warehouse Bakery houses Fairhope Roasting Company. With an open layout, everyone can see through a glass separator the coffee beans being roasted! Also, if you bring your own mug or cup, you get a discount on coffee! The scones are delicious, but honestly, all the baked goods are! Warehouse Bakery offers great breakfast and lunch dishes when you need more than just coffee!
All in all, Fairhopians value their coffee! So, stop by and enjoy all the great coffee shops that Fairhope has to offer!
