With the recent news of several Alabama State Parks closings, we are fortunate to have the Gulf State Park here in Gulf Shores. The Gulf State Park will not be on the chopping block according to Gov. Bentley.
That’s good news for locals and visitors. The park has thousands of visitors with most locals enjoying it on a daily basis.
The Gulf State Park includes some 6,150 acres with two miles of sugar white sand beaches across both Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Alabama. The Gulf State Park has modern campgrounds, cabins, cottages, primitive campsites and newly introduced this year Outposts campsites which are unique to our area. The 20 modern cabins and 11 cottages can be found along Shelby Lake and the natural surroundings with 4 completely secluded in “the woods.”
All are within walking distance of playgrounds for children, hiking and biking trails and the Refuge Golf Course.
The Hugh S. Branyon BackCountry Trails are some of the most extensive nature hiking and biking trails in the state of Alabama. With restrooms, water stations, wooden benches and swings dot the paths. All trails are leveled asphalt and with exception to the Gulf Oak Trail, most are flat surfaced. The newly added Coyote Crossing trail connected the Fort Morgan Road Trail for a hiking or biking experience that explores Fort Morgan, Gulf Shores, and Orange Beach providing almost 20 miles of exercise.
Gulf State Park also boasts the largest fishing pier in the Gulf of Mexico. Open 24 hours for day & night fishing as well as for the curious. Take a stroll to get a hands on view of what swims in the gulf. Or make a easy stop at Walmart and pick up your own fishing license and supplies for a day or night of fun.
