Fountain Hills is east of Scottsdale past the Mayo Clinic via Shea Blvd. It is known for its rolling hilly roads and views from most homes. There is a central iconic Fountain in the city center, with events during the winter months. Mostly recognized as a retirement community, there is also a public school system and plenty of families are full time residents. The most exclusive golf community surrounds Firerock Country Club, where homes range from new build lock and leave condominiums and patio homes, large estates exceeding 8,500 square feet. Driveways are steep due to the inclines, and most luxury homes have interior steps. But the views are absolutely incredible.
The town is bordered by the McDowell Mountain Regional Park to the North, the Salt River Pima Indian Reservation to the South, the Fort McDowell Indian Community, Verde River and Tonto National Forest to the East and the McDowell Mountain Range to the West.
The Beeline Highway 87 provides quick access to the East Valley and Saguaro Lake, with a full-service marina just 18 miles from Fountain Hills, offering both wet and dry slip storage and a lake-side restaurant. Set in the Sonoran Desert, Saguaro is rimmed with canyon walls and shores lined with majestic Saguaro cactus. Tour-boat trips are available on the Desert Belle (480) 671-0000. Camping, boat access-only camping and great fishing is available. The Park Service installed over 2,200 fish-habitat structures to enhance fishing. According to the Tonto National Forrest web site, fish census show that 12+ lb. bass and 30-lb. Carp exist in the depths; Bluegill comes in a variety of sizes; and Occasional species caught include Walleye, Black Crappie, Small-mouth Bass, Bigmouth Buffalo and Yellow Bass. According to Bass Master Magazine, the best time for trophy bass is October to December & January to mid-April.
