Enjoy Florida's Sunshine And Stay Safe This Summer!
Beach & Pool season is upon us!
Get outside and enjoy it!
Just don't forget - Safety First!
Read below for tips on how to stay safe this summer.
Avoid to much sunshine
Dehydration and sunburn can happen quickly!
- Be sure to stay hydrated, drink water & a lot of it
- Wear sunblock & reapply often
- Wear sunglasses, your eyes can get a sunburn too
- Don't forget your umbrella & protective clothing
Know what beach flags mean
- Double Red - Danger! Water Closed to Public
- Single Red - High Hazard, High Surf and/or Strong Currents
- Yellow - Medium Hazard, Moderate Surf and/or Currents
- Green - Low Hazard, Calm Conditions, Exercise Caution
- Purple - Dangerous Marine Life (Usually Jellyfish)
Be aware of your surroundings & be cautious of currents
- Pay attention to landmarks where you enter the water. This way you know where you are in reference to your belongings.
- Swim in front of a lifeguard tower & avoid swimming in water that is higher than waist deep
- Rip Currents are dangerous, they do not pull you under the water but out away from shore
- If you get caught in a Rip Current it is important to stay calm and conserve energy

General Water Safety Tips:
Five water survival skills for kids to master
- Step or jump into water over their heads & return to the surface
- Float or tread water for one minute
- Turn around in a full circle & find an exit
- Swim 25 yards to exit the water
- Exit the water. If in a pool, be able to exit without using the ladder
